What to do the night before an exam

In general, DO NOTHING at the night before an exam. Let me explain what I mean  “DO NOTHING”. It is the night before an exam, and you’ve made enough preparation before(Even if you didn’t, one night can’t change anything.) and you will get more or less nervous when you’re in an examination which is super normal and then you may consume more energy than usual. Hence, you need to have a chill night now.

Then how to make your night chill?

  1. Go for a healthy and nice dinner

We should eat healthy food at any time, but sometimes we don’t. However, the night before an exam, we need to obey this rule. We need to eat a balanced meal with some carbohydrates for energy, protein for brainpower and a small amount of natural sugars. Do Not consume too much whatever sugar, carbon or water. If you have high amounts of dinner before an exam,we may sleep badly and it will affect our exam.

  1. Enjoy a movie can make you relaxed

Lots of students are more used to doing a final revision during the last night before the exam. Some researchers found that students who totally relax the night before the exam always have better academic performance. And students who revise a lot the night before an exam may have much more pressure during exams and can’t reach their own expectation of results. Then why don’t you go for a relaxing movie? And noted, I didn’t say Star Wars that make you too excited and can’t go to sleep!

  1. Check your bag and make sure you bring everything

When you wake up on the day of your exam, you don’t want to have to worry about anything. That’s why it’s a good idea to prepare the night before. This can include packing snacks, preparing breakfast in advance and even laying out your clothes. You can also make sure you have any tools you need in your bag so that when you wake up, you’re ready to go!

*You can use our checklist here

  1. Set an alarm

What’s the first step to getting a good exam result? Participate in the exam. Then set your alarm the night before and set an extra alarm for a few minutes later so that if you happen to miss the first one, you have an alternate one ready to go off and wake you up.

  1.  Get enough sleep

After all these things you did, it’s your sleep time. Sleeping helps your brain both process and retain information. It will also have you ready to go with energy the next day, so aim to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep before exam day. (If you usually need more than 8 hours of sleep time, then you may need to try to go to sleep 9 hours earlier.)

Good Luck!

4 Ways to Encourage Creativity in your Teen

Before we discuss ways to encourage creativity, we should all agree that it is not an innate ability in all of us. One of the main reasons creativity seems so hard is that we desire it so much. When you really want to “be creative”, it’s hard to see that what you’re doing is creative. It may seem derivative, boring, or just not very good, when in fact it’s quite creative. Hence, it’s a long path to cultivate our teens’ creativity.

What’s our first way to encourage creativity? Don’t give them too many rules, but definitely have a few restrictions. High quality creativity is always bound by some restriction and forces the individual to think their way to the solution.

If our kids try something new that won’t hurt anyone else or themselves, don’t stop them. Usually, we can’t deny that children sometimes have more creativity than adults. Children don’t know they have this potential, and we need to make them understand and boost their creativity.

Then, we start with some ways less abstract.

The second way that can encourage creativity in young-children is using open-ended toys. Traditional toys such as blocks, building sets, toy animals or Lego can be used in multiple ways for multiple purposes and will encourage imaginative play and creativity.

Meanwhile, don’t be afraid of our smart techniques. You can control how our children will use it. Why don’t we guide our kids to enjoy, for example, coding, 3D moulding and design? Here are some websites that you may have a try: coding, Scratch & Scratch Jr., Blockly, Code for Life, Gamestar Mechanic, Code Monster by Crunchzilla.

The third way is providing a Creative Home Environment.

Making sure your child feels relaxed and comfortable at home can hugely contribute to whether or not they feel they can creatively express themselves. Allowing them to think and play, without strict rules or judgement, as well as giving the right encouragement, creates an environment where they can explore their ideas and nurture their creativity.

Then, let’s have unstructured time.

Often, creativity is stimulated when children have quiet time alone. This is why structured playtime is sometimes limited, as children are ‘expected’ to be creative for a set amount of time. By allowing a more relaxed structure for a few hours a day, children can be encouraged to develop creative thinking. In fact, this would allow children to play and create without any time constraints – after all, creativity needs room to breathe.

Another thing you can do is be creative with your teens. You can’t just say, ‘Hey, dude, you need to be creative! I believe in you’. You should be creative with your children and let them know that you really think it’s important for everyone.

Last but not least, it is important to show children that it is okay to be different. This may be somewhat similar to number one, but this one emphasises how you react when your child behaves differently!

Ways To Improve Your Academic Performance

Sometimes you find that even though you spend a lot of time on your studies, you still don’t get the results you want. Conversely, it’s possible that your grades have dropped when you’ve spent more time revising.

When you find that you are studying hard but not achieving your desired goals, perhaps we should stop and think, are we studying the right way? It is never too late or too early to make some changes to your study habits. In this article, we will look at 10 ways to improve your academic performance.

Prepare before you have classes

You may think that you need to prepare as teachers will guide and teach you new knowledge. The fact is that sometimes when you start to learn some new points, it is hard to understand in a short time. This may affect you catching key points your teacher taught in class. That’s why I highly suggest that you read related materials before.

Pay attention in class

This way is closely connected with our first point. Don’t distract yourself because you think that you’ve prepared! Many teachers give hints on the topics that they want to include in their quizzes and exams.

Ask questions

No question is stupid. It’s been said a million times, but students are always worried about asking stupid questions. I understand this mindset very well, because when I was a student I would also worry about asking ‘silly’ questions and being judged for it.

However, you’ll find that many other students have the same question and are too scared to ask. Help everyone and raise your hand.

Take notes

Many students fail their homework, quizzes, or exams because of the lack of note-taking skills. Taking notes doesn’t mean that you need to write down all the contents you heard, but contents you think it’s important after thinking.

Here is a link to some note taking methods: https://e-student.org/note-taking-methods/

Do revisions after class

Since we’ve prepared before class, how can we forget revision? You can revise by yourself, or find a study buddy to revise together. You’ll find you’ll complement eahothers weaknesses and discuss topics far more deeply.

It’s also a good idea that you find private tutoring if you find that it’s hard for you to understand knowledge in class.

Stop procrastinating

Many students write their papers the night before their due date, revise the day before their exams and try to complete their assignments before classes start. If you are doing this, you need to stop asap!

We bet that when you play and think of assignments you didn’t finish you feel stressed. Then you can’t play well and you study well either. Why don’t you start learning as early as possible and also organise a good time to  have fun. Book it into your calendar to ensure you have a good balance of studying & play.

Never be afraid to ask for help

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and it’s common that you’re good at one subject and another subject will be your greatest adversary.

Some students may think that asking for help shows that they’re not clever and they refuse to do it. They prefer to spend tons of time studying and studying by themselves which usually ends with not good grades.

Going for help is the most efficient way to acquire a huge process. You can ask your teachers, friends, parents or someone you know that has this ability to lead you. Also, Finding a private tutor is also a good choice.
